About

Photo of Al Hansen
Al grew up in Brunswick, Maine and graduated from Bates College in 1991 with a B.A. in History. He attended Delaware Law School, graduating in 1996. After graduation, Al worked for several years as an assistant district attorney. As a prosecutor, Al witnessed many cases where the state violated constitutional rights, overcharged citizens, and sometimes even accused the wrong person. This sparked his desire to become a criminal defense attorney. Al strongly believes that all clients, regardless of their background or personal circumstances, deserve superior representation and all of the protections afforded by law.

Al has been licensed as an attorney in New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts since 1997, 2000, and 2001, respectively. He previously worked for the firms of Normand & Associates in Manchester, NH and Bosen & Associates in Portsmouth, NH where he represented hundreds of clients throughout New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts. He is a member of the National, Maine, and New Hampshire Associations of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the National College for DUI Defense, and serves as Vice Chair of the New Hampshire Bar Association’s Family Law Section. In addition to his private law practice, Al is a rostered criminal defense attorney for the Maine Commission for Indigent Legal Services, providing representation to citizens who could not otherwise afford an attorney. He has been listed as an Avvo “Top DUI & DWI Attorney”, and has consistently held a Avvo “Superb” (10.0) rating.

Al lives with his family in southern Maine. In his free time, he enjoys playing guitar, skiing, cycling, and hiking. In 1992, Al successfully solo-hiked the entire length of the 2,200-mile Appalachian trail with his dog, Ted.
